Classic Kids TV doesn’t get much better than the Thunderbirds. The sets, scenery and characters were a huge hit at the time, and with the launch of the new series, a lot of the old magic is still there, and it’s proving just as popular.
One thing we didn’t have a lot of “back in the day” was a toy range, and what we did have was very minimal. Cue Vivid Imaginations and there brand new line of Thunderbirds toys and playsets!
The first int he link that we have to review is the ‘Thunderbird 2 with Mini Thunderbird 4’ set. Measuring at 14cm x 18.5cm, the ship is a screen-accurate replica, and, although light in weight, it’s surprisingly robust. Underneath are four legs that pop out to prop up the ship, and if you press on the central section, the green pod releases, which contains a miniature Thunderbird 4 ship. Another nice touch are the wings which can flip up.
To bring the ship to life, you can press the circular ‘2’ on the front which will play various action and rescue sounds from the new series.
As with the other ship available in the range, Thunderbird 2 is compatible with the Tracey Island playset (sold separately).
The set retails at £16.99, which is very reasonable considering the features and the playability.
