Add more gameplay to your LEGO® DIMENSIONS™ experience with the Ghostbusters™ Story Pack, featuring Abby Yates. Simply attach the minifigure to her LEGO Toy Tag and place her on the LEGO Toy Pad to bring her to life in the game. Then use her special abilities to solve puzzles and battle enemies. Add the 3-in-1 Ecto-1 to boost your gameplay, rebuild it into the Ectozer and The PerfEcto for upgraded abilities in the game. This set includes a buildable Abby Yates minifigure with her Proton Blaster, a 3-in-1 vehicle, Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant gateway build, six new game levels, and an Adventure World with a Battle Arena.
One year later and it’s hard to imagine the gaming market without LEGO Dimensions. The game-to-life model was completely rewritten and kids, adults (and us) have enjoyed many, many hours of gameplay – not to mention, the many hours of actually building the LEGO Dimensions game pieces!
Year Two promises to be very exciting indeed, with Harry Potter, Adventure Time, Fantastic Beasts, E.T and The Goonies (to name just a few), joining the LEGO Dimensions universe.
We kick off our series of Year Two reviews with the new Ghostbusters Story Pack.
One of the first things you will notice is the brand new gateway – this is a fantastic idea from the LEGO Dimensions team – one allows you to completely change the look and feel of the gaming plate. This new gateway resembles the Chinese restaurant base, as used by the Ghostbusters in the new movie – complete with sliding doors, console areas, and shelving units. As a build on its own, it looks amazing and you could quite happily have fun playing with this real world toy.
Also included is the Abby Yates mini-figure / game piece, complete with proton blaster. There’s also the newer Ecto-1 vehicle that you can build as part of the game. There’s actually 3 different vehicles you can build during gameplay which will give you upgraded abilities.
As for the game itself, you get six levels that follow the story of the movie, whilst expanding the on-screen adventure to a richer, more detailed experience. It also unlocks the adventure world and the brand new Battle Arena, which forms part of the Year 2 playability.
The gameplay is incredibly immersive, with full interactivity in the settings and scenes you play in. Certain levels also unlock the other Ghostbusters from the new movie, who all bring their own skills and personalities – hopefully these will be released as individual game pieces at some point. If there is one little niggle, it’s that there weren’t more of the Ghostbusters team in this pack.
The graphics are simply beautiful, and the lighting and shadow effects really help set the mood. The Aldridge Mansion level was particularly atmospheric, from the dark corners to the eerie lighting and blue ghostly glows. As with other levels, there are plenty of hidden secrets and bonuses to find – and you’ll find yourself going back through the levels to complete these.
The LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Story Pack is both loyal and tongue-in-cheek, and whilst it doesn’t take itself too seriously, you really do get swept into the story and gameplay, and feel part of the movie. Highly recommended!
