productinfoHelp Peter Venkman and the rest of the Ghostbusters™ save New York (and the world!) from Gozer once and for all.

Build Dr. Venkman, attach him to his LEGO® Toy Tag and place him on the LEGO® Toy Pad to see him come to life in the game.

Activate his Laser Deflector, Suspend Ghosts and Hazard Protection abilities to solve puzzles and overpower enemies, and when he needs an extra ghost-hunting boost, add the rebuildable 3-in-1 Ecto-1 or the Ghost Trap in to the game!

With the launch of the new Ghostbusters movie later this year, interest in the franchise has soared, stoking up fond memories of the original movies (for those of us old enough to remember them). Whilst there have been various releases of Ghostbusters related video games over the years, there was a level of freedom missing from them. Having a world based around the movie that you can explore and interact with is reason enough to dip into your wallet’s for the LEGO DimensionsGhostbustersLevel Pack. Well…that AND the fact you get 3 pretty awesome LEGO Dimensions game pieces to build!

In the Level Pack you get Peter Venkman, complete with Ghostbusters uniform and Proton Pack, the Ecto-1 car and a Ghost Trap. We were particularly impressed with the level of detail on the Peter Venkman figure; the proton pack and gun look just like the real thing and the way the gun clips into the pack or Venkman’s hand is fantastic!

Of course, with the Level Pack you get an all new game level called ‘A Spook Central Adventure‘. It’s a real nostalgia trip as you get to relive some of the key moments from the original movie. Everything starts off inside the Ghostbusters Fire Station HQ, where you have to solve puzzles to unlock the other members of the team – all except Winston (at this stage). This is where you get to build the Ecto-1 vehicle, which allows you to drive around at breakneck speeds through the Ghostbusters world.

After completing the tasks at the HQ, we are then taken to the Sedgewick Hotel to get rid of some unwanted guests – namely Slimer! It’s here where you get to build the third and final game piece – the Ghost Trap! It’s awesome to relive moments like these from the movie and you really feel like you’re part of the cinematic events.

Once the trouble at the hotel is sorted, you are then taken outside where you mainly get to use the Ecto-1…a lot. There’s a lot of driving you need to do for this section of the level, and a lot of stopping and getting out to solve more puzzles. Don’t get me wrong, its enjoyable, but did feel a little monotonous after a while.

Things got right back on track for the next portion of the level as we return to the HQ to turn on the containment unit, before being quickly ejected by crooked lawyer, Walter Peck. This aptly casts us back out on the streets of New York to deal with some of the ghosts that Walter and his crew let loose into the Big Apple – but not before Winston is (finally) added to the ghost-busting team. There’s a little more driving to contend with, but this leads up to one of the most enjoyable sections of the level as we fight Gozer and her minions at Dana’s building.

You enter Dana’s apartment building at street level and work your way through the hallway to solve puzzles, defeat Terror Dogs and eventually make your way up to the roof level. As you slowly weaken Gozer by solving more tasks and defeating more Terror Dogs, she turns into Mr Stay Puft (a.k.a Marshmallow Man), where you must use all your skills to defeat this colossal confectionary character.

All in all, this was a thoroughly entertaining level that really immerses you in the action whilst bringing back some nostalgic memories. It was particularly clever how the linking snippets of audio were used from dialogue used in the actual movie, making you feel that bit closer to the action.

Don’t forget that despite having completed the level, you still have the explorable Ghostbusters world to check out – accessible via the portals. Walk through the streets of New York, descend into the sewer system and navigate the river of slime, climb aboard the Titanic, visit the Statue of Liberty…there’s so much to look at and so much to do that the £29.99 RRP feels comparatively bargainous.

As long as you “aint afraid of no ghosts” then the LEGO DimensionsGhostbustersLevel Pack is most definitely not one to be missed!
